revereThe British are coming.  But the werewolves are worse…

When a supernatural killer stalks the townspeople of Boston, renowned silversmith and monster hunter Paul Revere is called in to fight the evil. While tracking down clues to the killer’s identity, the first shots of the Revolution are fired, and Revere finds himself battling a war on two fronts in a struggle to save his family.

Revere battles a marauding band of outlaw Redcoats led by a bloodthirsty general, rescues a damsel in distress, and saves a lost soul from demons of the past. All of this sets the stage for a climactic battle at the Old North Church, where enemies become allies in an effort to save the land from this unspeakable terror. And in the end, Revere finds the fate of his beloved wife lies in the hands of the only werewolf he couldn’t bring himself to kill…

Dynamic Target Numbers

Savage Worlds uses a stagnant Target Number of 4 to resolve all trait tests and applies modifiers depending upon difficulty. The modifiers to this roll range from +2 to something trivial to –2 or –4, for particularly difficult tasks. It is often useful to think of a task at hand as being “easy”, “difficult”, or “impossible” instead of trying to apply a numerical modifier. This does not affect the rules in any way, just the thought process over assigning modifiers for tasks.

Instead of modifiers, the following chart is used to assign target numbers based upon the difficulty of a task; one category, “trivial”, not shown here consists of tasks that are so simple that they don’t require a trait test. These tasks are typically just worked into a scene’s narrative or hand-waved by the game master.

Difficulty Target Number
Easy 2
Normal 4
Difficult 6
Challenging 8
Formidable 10
“Impossible” 12

Seems that a handful of blogs either geared towards Savage Worlds or featuring Savage Worlds content have come out from under the sheets lately. I’ve added a list of those that I know about on the right side list. Check them out, and if you know of any others, let me know as I’d like to check them out myself and add them as well.

It seems that life is emulating fiction with real life superheroes coming out of the woodwork, patrolling our streets and keep citizens safe from encroaching evil! Yea, or perhaps it a few people, a little unbalance, for better or worse, enjoying themselves while living out a fantasy.  Whatever it is, I’ve read about this recently in magazines and online articles. Introductory paragraph from the oddee.com article…

And you thought superheroes existed only in fiction? Inspired by fiction superheroes such as Batman and Superman, these people wear masks and capes in order to fight real crime on the strets. Here’s a list with 10 of the most famous real-life superheroes.

As whim strikes me, I’ll be statting up these superheroes starting with Citizen Prime, a hero I’ve read about previously.

citizen_primeCitizen Prime, a 40-year-old married man whose first name is Jim, has been protecting the streets of Phoenix for a year. He became a superhero to spread the message that people don’t have to be fearful of crime. "Are you going to sit inside scared that a terrorist might attack your city, or are you going to go out and live your life?" he asked. But Prime, who patrols once or twice a week in a black, blue and yellow costume, found one chink in his armor. He couldn’t find any crime. "The only crime I’ve ever stopped is when I was actually walking out of a sporting goods store with my wife," he said. "A shoplifter came running past me, and I managed to throw him to the ground."

Edges: Alertness, Block, Charismatic, Level Headed

Out of Eden

Life sprang forth from the Garden and exited with the Fall of Man;
a messiah of the Serpent shall arise in a new Eden to return
man to the Garden to partake of the first trees.

The Fall of Man
From the dust of the Earth was Adam molded, from a rib of Adam was Eve formed and they were placed in the Garden, eastward in Eden. Adam and Eve were charged by God to tend the Garden in which they lived yet they were forbidden to eat from the Tree of Knowledge or the Tree of Life. But the mother of man was tempted by the Serpent and partook from the Tree of Knowledge and in turn shared this fruit with Adam; they became aware. The Lord confronted them for their disobedience and expelled them from Eden and extended the punishment to their descendants, who are destined to strive, suffer and die. The Lord then placed a cherubim in Eden to guard against entrance into the Garden and the fruit of the first Trees was lost to man.

The First Sin
Satan, an angel that had rebelled against God, visited Eve and speaking through the guise of the Serpent seduced Eve who begot twin sons, Cain and Abel, creating the Serpent Seed. Upon them reaching manhood God offered Cain and Abel His grace if they abandoned the darkness within and followed the tenants of Heaven. Abel agreed and spurned his Serpent heritage while Cain wavered in his decision, conflicted by his inner darkness. The Lord looked with favor upon Abel so Cain was angry, and the Lord said unto Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." But Cain was filled with much hatred and could not resist the Serpent and so attacked and killed his brother, becoming the first to spill the blood of another. The Lord cursed Cain and forced him to wander the Earth seeking atonement for his deed, but Cain fully embraced the Serpent and was gifted with a stolen fruit from the Tree of Life by a Grigori. Cain partook of the fruit and was bestowed with immortality and went out to spread the Serpent Seed among man.

The Third Son
After Cain was cursed to wander, the Lord gifted Adam and Eve with a third child named Seth. Seth lived a good and righteous life following the teachings of Heaven. According to the Testament of Adam, Adam, knowing his death is near, called Seth to his side and instructed him to enter the Garden of Eden and get three seeds from the fruit of the Tree of Life. Adam then instructed Seth to return to him and place the three seeds in his mouth before burying his body; Seth did as his father requested and made the trip to the Garden of Eden. Seth expected to find a cherubim guarding the gate to the Garden but instead it was the Archangel Michael that stood in his place. Knowing well and good Seth’s intentions, Michael let him pass on the condition that Seth would perform an additional task. After collecting the seeds, Seth passed back through the gates and returned to his father who had died during his absence. Seth dug Adam’s grave and buried him, placing three seeds in his mouth as instructed before covering him with dirt. In time, three trees sprung up from Adam’s grave; these three trees would later be chopped down to provide the wood for the three crosses of Golgotha.

After burying Adam, Seth opened his hand and completed the task laid upon him by Michael; that of eating a whole fruit from the Tree of Life himself. It is with this simple act that Seth joined his brother Cain in immortality, destined to walk the Earth for eternity opposing the Serpent Seed.

2009 Wild Die Relaunch

Welcome to the first post of the Wild Die relaunch for 2009…this time with a more focused approach and no self-imposed pressure to post on a daily basis. Wild Die will be returning to its original purpose, concentrating on all things Savaged. What form this will take exactly is beyond me at this moment, but I do have some ideas brewing in my head…

Of course along with all of these (and other things I may think up) could be write ups for extras, monsters, edges, powers, or anything else Savage Worlds rules related. I’m not going to get to ambitious with this, aiming for a single post a week so that things don’t feel like a chore as blogs often will.

The new year should be fun…let’s see what it brings.
